Springfield is a planned "satellite city" between Brisbane and Ipswich. In March 2004 it had 2300 homes, and has provision for 14,000 more houses during the next twenty-five years. Each month at present thirty-five as many as an additional ninety families arrive and another fifteen depart.
Springfield is a different ministry for two main reasons 1. Over 80% of its 5,000 people are under forty years of age 2. As much as possible all ordained and lay CTIS ministers work multi-denominationally. Priority is given to religious activities for children, and social activities for older citizens and the constant visitation of all homes. Sunday worship services take place simultaneously at The Springfield College, and this allows the congregations to meet one another weekly, thus building on the ecumenical spirit that already has been developed. The three churches have educational connections in The Springfield College (now Preschool to Year 11), which is in partnership with the Uniting and Anglican churches, and St Augustine’s College (now Preschool to Year 9) which is conducted by Brisbane Catholic Education. Sunday Mass is celebrated in Springfield each week. The Uniting, Anglican and Catholic congregations gather for prayer and social purposes at set dates throughout the year, as planned at the regular CTIS ministry team meetings. Mass is celebrated in St Monica's Chapel of St Augustine's College at 9.00am each Sunday.
