Situated
in the west of Sydney, close to the foot of the Blue Mountains, Holy
Spirit Parish has twenty eight thousand people living in its boundaries.
Of the total population just over twelve thousand are Catholic with
a very high proportion of youth (thirty percent are under fourteen
years of age). Holy Spirit Parish is also blessed with racial diversity
with over twenty two percent of local Catholics born in non-English
speaking countries.
The area is almost exclusively residential with most locals travelling
elsewhere to work.
Before development the area was part of St Mary's parish. Holy Spirit
was established as autonomous in 1981 and was first served by Fr Brian
Rooney. When the Augustinians took over from Fr. Rooney in 1995 they
found a place well established and very active.
In October 2006 the Parish of the Holy Spirit at St Clair celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with a number of events and ceremonies.
There are four masses celebrated each Sunday. There are two
parish primary schools with a combined enrolment of over one thousand
students,
and a Catholic secondary school with an enrolment of over one thousand
two hundred students. Other active groups and organisations include
those who organise and serve our Sunday liturgies, caring for the needy,
catechumen education, prayer and social groups. The parish holds Filipino
Masses on the first Sunday each month at 3.30pm.

Holy Spirit Parish is growing in strength and unity, with parishioners
feeling a strong sense of belonging.
If you are in the area, pay a visit to our parish Centre on the corner
of Todd Row and Moore Street.
The Augustinians currently serving in St Clair are Fr Brian Fitzpatrick OSA (Moderator), Fr Peter Tangey OSA and Fr Joseph Lam OSA.

News from St Clair/Erskine Park:
On 14th February 2004, the renovations of the church were completed with the
arrival of new furniture for the sanctuary. This furniture was donated by the
Maloney foundation and was designed and built by Greg St John from Canberra.
The altar, presider’s chair and lectern commemorate in a permanent
way the part the Augustinian Community played in the life of the parish
from the time of arrival in 1995. The Augustinian crest is etched onto
the glass back of the presider’s chair to be a constant reminder
of the cooperation and love that has existed between the members of
the Order and the present and future members of Holy Spirit Parish.
