Present was a representative from each Augustinian parishes in mainland eastern Australia: Mareeba, Coorparoo, North Harbour, St Clair, South Yarra, and the former Augustinian parish at Kyabram.
Also present was the Formation Co-ordinator Maureen Atkins, Chaplain Fr Paul Maloney, International Laity Commission member Fr Dave Austin. We were also very pleased to be joined for one session by newly-elected Prior Provincial Fr Peter Jones.
Friends of St Augustine is a lay association formed in the Australasian Augustinian Province in 1998. We meet in local groups four times a year with the aim to explore the spirituality and charism of Augustine in a friendly and supportive environment.
How can I live my faith? How can I be an authentic Christian in today’s world? Friends gatherings provide the opportunity for Augustine to help guide us to an answer.
Each year we have a theme. Previous themes we explored were Interiority, Prayer and Action, the Word. We use Augustine’s many commentaries and texts to explore and gain a better understanding of the year’s focus and we seek to answer the question - How am I called to respond in my daily life?
Next year we look forward to the International Laity Congress in Rome with the theme Sharing the Joy of the Gospel and our own national conferences that will continue to explore a similar theme.
