AUGUSTINIAN FORMATION ASSOCIATION (AFA)

Supporting the training of brothers and priests for the Augustinian Order

Post Office Box 679,
Brookvale 2100

This is the first newsletter for 2003. I would like to welcome you all to what seems to be a busy year, and thank you for your continued support.

At our Annual General Meeting on the 5th February the office bearers for 2003 were elected. The positions are as follows:

President: Trudi McFadden
Secretary: Yvonne Clark
Treasurer: Eddie Robinson
Social Secretary: Sue Colwell
Committee members: Bette Epps, Michael Halloway, Carl and Lyn Martin, Yvonne Richardson, Lesley Sing, Margaret Van Ommen.

I would like to thank them for their time and loyalty to this wonderful cause.

The calendar for fundraising events are:

Annual Charity Stall 5th April The Corso Manly
Membership drive, Mass and Barbeque 24th August St Kieran's Manly Vale
Trivia night 20th September St Kieran's Manly Vale
Christmas Dinner and Tombola 29th November Warringah Golf Club

We hope all these functions will be well attended. We are doing something a little different this year and are planning a bus trip to St Clair and then going on to have lunch somewhere and a scenic drive. If there are any members who will be in Sydney from interstate on the 27th July they are most welcome to join us. The cost for the day will be $40 inclusive and should be an enjoyable day.

The Augustinian Formation Association is a wonderful and unique organization and we as members assist in raising funds to help young men enter the Augustinian Order to carry on the good work that our St Augustine did so many years ago.

Let us not loose sight that it is part of our Christian teaching that we must live the life of Christ through our action and deeds and this is a wonderful way of showing it.

Also, please note that membership subscriptions of $20 are now due.

From the Formation Director

Happy New Year to the members of AFA.

This year we have one candidate - Minh-Tan Hoang (Tan) who is undertaking his novitiate year. The Novitiate year is a time in which the person preparing for living religious life deepens their awareness of God's presence in their lives as well as grow in their understanding of religious life as it is lived in a particular congregation. As such it is a year free from major academic and pastoral commitments to allow space for the novice to focus on their relationship with God, self and their community. The novice is helped to prepare for profession and religious vows that is well discerned and committed. We wish Tan well as he continues in his novitiate year.

Congratulations to members of the Committee elected at the recent Annual General Meeting. I thank Trudi McFadden for accepting the nomination as President. Trudi has become involved with AFA in recent times and her enthusiasm for the association has been evident. With a dedicated and energetic committee, we look forward to a great year for AFA.

As well as our ongoing prayers for one another, let us all continue to pray for peace.

Fr Peter Jones osa

Rest in Peace
