NEWSLETTER

AUGUSTINIAN FORMATION ASSOCIATION (AFA)

Supporting the training of brothers and priests for the Augustinian Order

Post Office Box 679, Brookvale 2100

No. 3/00 November 2000

In our last newsletter I highlighted the desire to provide members outside the Manly Vale/Brookvale areas the opportunity of a closer involvement with the Augustinians and AFA. The Augustinian web site is now operational and is gradually being built up to provide information on the Order and Lay support groups. A Prayer Resource to be included on the site is also being developed.

Christmas TreeThe Manly Corso stall proved once more a financial success and a usual pleasant day was had by the workers on the stall, the Corso is indeed a vibrant location.

Our commitment to the Augustinians is paid in December 2000 and we have approximately $600 in hand.

With our minds having recently been focused on the success and enthusiasm of the Olympics and the Paralympics the date of our Christmas function, 25 November, 2000 is closing in. Once again the success of this function will be relied upon to build up our finances for the coming year.

In early July, Augustinians throughout Australia met in Brisbane for a mid-Chapter. At this meeting consideration was given to future directions in the various ministries in which the Order is involved. Among the decisions made, one was to support the development of an Augustinian ministry in East Timor - a joint venture with the Philippines Cebu Province. This is a hopeful decision of the Augustinians in terms of the opportunity of service to the people of East Timor as well as the Order's capacity to undertake to such a venture in the face of the challenges we presently encounter. As with the Korean venture, support of an eventual East Timor ministry will be a partnership between the Augustinians and our friends in Australia.

Earlier in the year, acknowledgement was made in this newsletter of some Augustinians who have celebrated significant anniversaries. Since then there have been more.
