AUGUSTINIAN BULLETIN BOARD - June 2001
Press Release:
Re: Principal, Saint Augustine's
College, Brookvale
Fr Patrick Fahey OSA, Provincial, on behalf of the Provincial
Council and Saint Augustine's College Council is pleased to announce
the appointment of Mr Timothy James Cleary as the next Principal of
Saint Augustine's College, Brookvale. Tim will replace Mr John O'Brien
upon John's retirement from the position at the end of the 2001 school
year. Tim will move to Sydney during 2001 with his wife Elizabeth and
their two young sons, Thomas and Max.
Tim comes to Saint Augustine's College with a strong academic
and administrative background. He is presently Deputy Headmaster at
Saint Edmund's College, Canberra - a school with 1200 boys in classes
ranging from Year 4 to Year 12. Tim has held that position since 1997
after transferring from Saint Ignatius' College Riverview where he was
a Boarding Housemaster and Director of Rugby. He had previously held
Coordinator's positions at Waverley College and at Saint Edmund's College
Canberra and a year as investigator with the Australian Federal Police.
Tim's professional qualifications included a Diploma of Teaching, a
Bachelor of Education and a Master of Educational Administration.
Tim has taught primary classes and been Head of Primary
in addition to his Deputy Headmastership in Canberra. He has taught
English and Religious Education from Year 7 to Higher School Certificate
classes. Saint Edmund's College is a Registered Training Organisation
for Vocational Education Students in part through Tim's initiatives
in the such areas as the introduction of new subjects into the curriculum,
revision of curriculum and program documentation, revision of primary
school reporting and revision of the secondary teaching timetable. He
seems strongly suited to the ongoing excellence of the Middle School
at Saint Augustine's College for Years 5 to 8, having been part of the
team that implemented similar advances at Riverview, and to promote
the continued strengthening of the curriculum in the Upper School of
Saint Augustine's College.
The education of boys and young men at Saint Augustine's
College has always been augmented by its strong co-curricular program.
Tim brings a strong interest in Rugby as Assistant Coach to the winning
Waratah Shield sides of 1997-2000, as senior referee and as Director
Rugby at Riverview when they won their first GPS title. He had lead
and coached basketball, cricket, and public speaking and holds a black
belt in Taekwondo. He is noted at Saint Edmund's College for his wide
rapport with students, his ability to bring staff with him and good
communication with parents.
We welcome Tim to Saint Augustine's College and the Augustinian
model of education.
