AUGUSTINIAN BULLETIN BOARD - May 2001
Alleluia in reality
It's in hope that we sing alleluia. Just look what
joy there is in hope. What will the reality itself be like? You want
to know what it will be like? Listen to what follows: They shall
get drunk on the plenteousness of your house. That's the reality
hope is about. We're thirsty, we're hungry, it must be that we shall
be satisfied; but hunger while on the road, satisfaction when we get
home. When shall we be satisfied? I shall be satisfied when your
glory is revealed. Now, though, the glory of our God, the glory
of our Christ, is concealed; and with it is concealed ours also. But
when Christ appears, your life, then you too will appear with him
in glory.
Then it will be alleluia in reality, the real thing
while now it is just in hope. Hope sings it, love sings it now, love
will also sing it then; but now love sings it with hunger, then it will
sing it with satisfied enjoyment. What, after all, is alleluia,
my brothers and sisters? I've told you; it's the praise of God. There
you are, you hear the word now, and in hearing it you are delighted,
and in your delight you are praising him.
Sermon 255, 5
- The Australian Augustinian
Youth Festival No. 7 - Harrietville Victoria 5-8 July
(Thursday evening to Sunday lunch). The time draws near for this wonderful
celebration of faith and friendship to be held at Feathertop Chalet,
Harrietville, surrounded by the beautiful Victorian Alps. An invitation
to adults aged 18 - 35 years approx. Theme "Set the Course".

- In March the Augustinians accepted responsibility for the pastoral
care and administration of the parish of St
Cecilia's Balgowlah for a period of six years. The Augustinian
community of the adjoining parish of Manly Vale will take on this
responsibility and Fr Tony Banks has been appointed Parish Priest
of Balgowlah.
- One Mind, One Heart Conference.
This conference of leadership teams, curriculum leaders and pastoral
care personnel from the Order's two Australian Colleges (Villanova
College, Brisbane and St Augustine's College, Brookvale) was held
at Redland Bay (Brisbane) from 9 to 12 April. The gathering was a
great success. Key presenters were Fr Laurie Mooney osa (Director,
Augustinian Spirituality Centre), Dennis Harvey, Edmond Maher, Sr
Pat Malone rsj, Fr Michael Morahan osa and Kath Neehouse.
As well as the input, the discussion among participants, the friendships
developed between the two colleges, the liturgies, the tour of Villanova
College and celebratory meal all contributed to a fruitful conference.
Those who attended have the responsibility of enabling the insights
of the conference to be of benefit in the colleges.
- During April, Fr Pat Fahey (Provincial) and Bishop James Foley
(Diocese of Cairns) announced some changes to the Augustinian presence
in Mareeba. During 2001, Fr Rod
Cameron who has been in Mareeba since 1983 will retire from parish
ministry and move from there and Fr Gerry Dullard will move from there
next year. Fr Robert Greenup will continue as Pastor. It is possible
that a lay community may be formed at Mareeba. The Order values highly
the community presence it has had in Mareeba for many years.
These decisions are an outcome of decisions at last year's mid-Chapter
which reviewed the present resources of the Order in relation to the
ways it could be of service to the Australian Church.
- In the week after Easter, Augustinians
involved in parish ministry gathered for a three day seminar
in Sydney. The input was given by some guest presenters who were priests
involved in parish ministry as well as the Augustinians themselves
sharing in the wisdom of each other.
The seminar concluded with a meal to celebrate the 50th
Anniversary of religious profession of Fathers Pat Fahey and Gerry
Dullard.
- In May, Fr Pat Fahey (Provincial) will attend meetings of the Asia
Pacific Augustinian Conference (APAC) in Manila. This
conference consists of representatives from the various Augustinian
religious congregations in the Asia Pacific region.
Fr Pat Fahey will be accompanied by Frs Anthony Banks and John Murray
who are current members of commissions of APAC (Apostolate and Justice
and Peace, respectively).
