AUGUSTINIAN BULLETIN BOARD - June 2001
Run on affection
So there is some walking, some travelling to be done; but that doesn't
mean ointment for feet, a quest for mules and horses, the provision
of ships. Run on affection, with your feelings, travel by love, ascended
by charity. Why look for a route or a way? Stick close to Christ, who
made himself into the way by descending and ascending. Do you want to
ascend? Hold on to him as he ascends. After all, you can't be hoisted
up under your own steam, because No one has gone up into heaven, except
him who came down from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. If no
one has gone up except the one who came down, and he is the Son of our
man, our Lord Jesus, do you too want to go up? Be a part of him, who
is the only one to have ascended. You see, he the head is, with the
rest of his body, one person, one man. And since none can go up unless
they have been incorporated in him as members of his body, this text
is verified, that no one has gone up into heaven except him who came
down.

- The National Lay Congress held

great success. Around 130 people from various places in Australia
attended. Keynote speaker was Fr Ted Tack osa (former Prior General)
who came all the way from Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. For a fuller description
of the conference you can read "Augustine
Down by the Riverside" written by Warwick Jones, of Manly
Vale Parish. For copies of the talks of the Conference, please contact
Kay on 9905 3049.
- On 30 April, Fr Pat Fahey osa, Provincial announced the appointment
of Mr Timothy Cleary
as Principal of St Augustine's College commencing in
2002. The Provincial congratulates Tim on his appointment.
- On the weekend of 28-29 April a statement
by the Provincial on changes to the Augustinian presence in Echuca
and Kyabram was read at all Masses in those parishes.
- News from St Thomas of Villanova, Mareeba.
On Sunday 3 June the Catholic Aborigines of Mareeba Parish celebrated
a Bush Mass on the banks of the
Walsh River at Algoma Road, Mutchilba. After Mass a meal of freshly
cooked damper and bill tea was enjoyed.
Since the departure of Fr John Camelliri from Dimbulah, St Anthony's
Parish has been given into the care of Mareeba Parish, giving a much
larger community for our priests to minister to.
Our Parish Priest, Fr Robert Greenup O.S.A., along with the Mareeba
Parish Pastoral Council, have been discussing and deliberating over
Mass times, keeping in mind that this will be a one priest Parish
in the not too distant future.
All parishioners have been given the opportunity to have a say in
the form of surveys. Mareeba, Dimbulah, Kuranda and Mt Molloy are
all affected, so some Mass times will certainly be reduced or altered.
Please keep us in your prayers as we strive to reach a satisfactory
decision in these changing times.
- Augustinian transfers - Fr Peter Hayes
osa has completed his time at Echuca and for the time being
resides at Brookvale.
- On behalf of the Augustinians, Fr Pat Fahey osa has congratulated
Joseph Grech on his appointment
as Bishop of Sandhurst. The Provincial
together with Fr David Austin osa (Pastor, Kyabram) and Fr John Murray
osa (Pastor, Echuca) were present at Bishop Grech's installation at
Bendigo on Friday 27 April.
