AUGUSTINIAN BULLETIN BOARD - April 2002

Christ rose again in what he took from us

Mortality came to all human beings from sin; in the Lord, however, it was the result of kindness and mercy, and yet it was genuine all the same, because such perfect flesh was real and genuine, and genuinely mortal, having the likeness of the flesh of sin; not the likeliness of flesh, but the likeness of the flesh of sin. After all, as I said, he hadn't taken that mortality as the deserts of sin, seeing that he had emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and becoming obedient to the death. So what was he, and what did he have? He was divinity, which had mortality. Now that in which he died was also that in which he rose again.

Now take a look at those who say, "It was possible for Christ alone to rise again, not though for you." But you must answer and say, "Christ rose again in what he had taken from us. Take away the form of a servant, there would be nothing in which to rise again, because there would be nothing in which to die. So why, by praising my Lord, do you wish to pull down the faith, which my Lord built up in me? It's as a result, you see, of his taking the form of a servant that he died. But he rose again in the same respect as he died. So I certainly need not despair in the least about the resurrection of a servant, since it was in the form of a servant that the lord rose again."

Sermon 361, 17

In late March the following announcement was made to the parishes of Echuca and Kyabram.

Announcement regarding the future Augustinian Community in Northern Victoria

In April of 2001, the Provincial of the Augustinians in Australia, Father Patrick Fahey, osa and the Right Reverend Monsignor John Duffus, Diocesan Administrator announced that from the beginning of July, 2002, the Parishes of Echuca and Kyabram would be served by one community rather than two separate communities of Augustinians.

Having taken into account the various needs of the future community, it has been determined by the Provincial and Council that from July 1st, 2002, the Augustinian community will be located at St Augustine's Priory, Kyabram. Father David Austin, osa has been appointed Prior and Parish Priest of the two parishes.

The prayers of the members of the two parishes are requested for the Diocese of Sandhurst and the Augustinians that God will bless them with vocations to the Religious life and the Priesthood.

Congratulations to Frs John Barry osa and Peter Hayes osa on the 50th anniversary of their religious profession on 23rd April

On 19th March 1952 the Australian Province of the Augustinians was established under the patronage of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Augustinians have served in Australia since 1838 and form the 1880's the Irish Province had authority over the presence of the Order here. The establishment of the Australian Province marked a significant development in the Augustinian story in Australia. While the actual 50th anniversary occurred on 19th March, the Province will celebrate the event at the Chapter to be held later this year.

MAREEBA BUSH MASS
