...Jottings from St James, Coorparoo The second of our Jubilee dinners took place on Sunday, July 16, 2000 under the slogan, 'The Baby Boomers'. Apparently it was the title given to those who were born between 1935 and 1960 or if you wish, those between the ages of 40 and 65.
A most enjoyable afternoon was experienced by all participants and there was no shortage of helpers either in preparing the hall or in restoring it.
Mareeba Jubilee Celebration After months of discussion, preparation, organisation and anticipation, plus day after day of cloudy, drizzly weather, we awoke in Mareeba to sunshine on Trinity Sunday 18 June. Despite a blustery and fairly cool day, close to 600 people came to share in an open-air celebratory Eucharist, which was held on St Thomas's School oval. All of nature seemed to join with the Assembly as the singers' voices carried our prayers up to God. This wonderful Mass was concelebrated by Fathers Rod Cameron and Rob Greenup. A number of year 7 students from St Thomas's School read the Jubilee prayer which focuses on the Jubilee theme - Yesterday, Today and Forever. Following the Mass an olive tree, symbolizing hope for the future, was planted in the yard between the priory and the church A plaque will be placed beside the tree with the following inscription: This
olive tree was planted by the parishioners of Mareeba Parish on Trinity
Sunday 18 June 2000 as part of the celebration to mark the Jubilee Year.
The morning wound up with a picnic lunch shared by the parishioners
and games for the young at heart! It was good to see many parishioners
at the Mass who had responded positively to the letter sent to all Catholics
in the Mareeba Parish inviting them to this special Jubilee Mass.
