"THE AUGUSTINIAN" December 2000 Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 Return to Current News ...Jottings from St James, Coorparoo Basmali rice, Jasmine rice, fried rice, & sluggy rice has been the order of the day here since the arrival ten weeks ago of Korean physiotherapist, Francis Kim who studies English at a fare-day-week school in the city. On my turns at cooking I attempted to do a pasta dish, just for variety, between Indonesian and Korean fare. It may be no big deal in other areas but in this 'senior citizen's community' the Pastoral Council, in it's pastoral planning, decided to form a subcommittee to do something to attract 'youth'. It was an audacious venture to invite young people to a dinner at the Priory. To say it was successful is an understatement; twenty-one people, between 18-30 sat down to be served on Friday October 6. Since then a number head off for coffee to 'Le Scoops' on Old Cleveland Road, after Sunday night mass. They have made suggestions as to future events and I believe the next event is a weekend camp. The final Jubilee dinner (18-40) for the year is scheduled for Sunday November 19 and it is hoped that the original 21 will return, accompanied by their friends and those married in that age bracket. Quotations have been accepted by the Finance committee for internal church repainting, varying considerably between $16,000 to $45,000. Thanks to the initiative, ingenuity and expertise of Jim McDonald, Chairperson of the Pastoral Council, the parish web-site www.powerup.com.au/~stjames was launched. Fr Brendan Quirke osa
