"THE AUGUSTINIAN" April 2001 Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 Return to Current News
Open Day has been a regular event in the College calendar for the past few years. While its primary aim is to enable families of prospective students to become acquainted with the College, it is also significant as a wonderful expression of the spirit of community at this place. The preparations for the day involved members of staff and students working together. The various displays, presentations and pieces of information were well prepared, colourful and enabled visitors to have an appreciation of what St Augustine's College has to offer. The best advertisements were the members of the College community itself. The highlight of the day for many who came were the tours conducted by the students who confidently responded to the various queries of our visitors. Even though open Day took place on the weekend at least a third of the students actively took part in the day. The dedication and commitment of the staff was evident and this was affirmed by College Principle, Mr John O'Brien. John paid special tribute to teachers Kirsty Begg (Open Day Co-ordinator) and Danni Stanway for their unique contribution to the day's success. Our patron St Augustine consistently links our following of Christ to our attention to the quality of our life together. Many noble things can be spoken or written in regard to community. It is in such ordinary experiences like the work for Open Day that being part of a community can touch our spirits as we seek to live it and share it with others.
