THE NEW AUGUSTINIAN PRIOR GENERAL

Robert Francis Prevost, OSA was born on the 14th September 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. He made his first profession in the Augustinian Province of Chicago on the 2nd September, 1978. On the 29th August, 1981 he pronounced his Solemn Vows. He was ordained priest at the Collegio Santa Monica (Rome) on the 19th June, 1982.

In the year 1985, he completed his doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontificia Universitas Studiorum a Sancto Thoma Aquinate in Urbe ("Angelicum"Rome).

During the years 1985-1986, he was sent to the Vicariate of Chulucanas, Per�, and appointed Chancellor of the Prelature.

Back in the U.S. in 1987 he was placed in charge of the vocational promotion program, and also worked as Procurator for the missions of his Province.

In 1988, he went back to Trujillo, Perù, to initiate the first common formation house between the Vicariate of Chulucanas and those of Iquitos and Apurimac. In this community which serves the the prenovices and professed, he occupied the post of Prior (1988-1992), Formation Director (1988-1999), Master of Professed (1993-1998), and served as parish priest of St Mary of Montserrat Parish. In the Archdiocese of Trujillo, Father Robert worked as Judicial Vicar (1991-1998) and as Director of Studies at the Seminary of San Carlo and San Marcelo.

Elected Prior Provincial of the Chicago Province (1998), he returned to the U.S.A., beginning his mandate on 8th March, 1999.

On his 46th birthday, 14th September, 2001, he was elected by a vast majority as Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine.
