At the General Chapter of the Order in Rome, last September, Nigeria became an independent Province of the Order, with its own Nigerian Provincial, Very Reverend Patrick Akinrimisi. The Province has about 40 priests, and 80 students being educated for the Order. A member of the Province, James Daman, was recently appointed Bishop of the diocese of Jalingo.
ASIA PACIFIC AUGUSTINIAN CONFERENCE (APAC) In February 73 Augustinians and 11 laity from Australia, Asia and the USA travelled to Tagaytay City in the Philippines for the Asia Pacific Augustinian Conference (APAC) on Augustinian Spirituality, Justice and Peace. The Conference dealt both with Augustinian spirituality and with an exposure to areas of social justice, including a day long experience with the poor and marginalized of the Philippines. A key speaker on Augustine was Bishop David Walker. While attending the APAC Conference, Pat Brown and Kriz Florido of Holy Spirit Parish, St Clair traveled to the city of Iloilo to visit the Augustinian parish of San Jose.

TWINNING San Jose parish is located in Iloilo City, the capital of the island of Panay in the Philippines. There is roughly the same number of Catholics in the parish as in Holy Spirit parish, St Clair. Catholic people make up about 85% of the total population of the parish and about 70 per cent of these attend the nine Masses on a Sunday. Iloilo City has a population of less than half that of Sydney. San Jose is much older than Holy Spirit, being established in 1626 and, by decree of Queen Isabel II of Spain, placed under the ministry of the Augustinians in 1868.
