IRISH PROVINCE NEWS

At present there are 18 Irish Augustinians working on the African Continent. One of these is in South Africa forming the first Augustinian community in that country, with confreres from America and the Philippines. There are 12 in Nigeria, two of whom are bishops. Four, together with some Nigerian Augustinians, have started the Order in Kenya, where they have novices and professed Kenyan Augustinians. And then there is one who, with a Nigerian confrere, has opened the first Augustinian house in the French-speaking Republic of Benin, where they have taken charge of the National Marian Shrine.

...I have heard it said and there is a certain truth to it that the best way to keep boys in line is to keep them busy day and night, tire them out. However this is not an ultimate answer. Boys like adults do need to have control of some of their time and to use it creatively...

Many boys develop skills despite we adults giving into the temptation to organize all their time. To respond to and guide boys as they develop such capacities is perhaps more demanding than organizing activities for them. They can make mistakes and go off on tangents that may be

neither healthy nor productive. However, self directed activity and interests are in the long term of great value and have incredible power to generate motivation to learn...

Establishment of St Kieran's Parish, Manly Vale under care of the Augustinians, 50th Anniversary
Parish opening 12th October with Augustinians in care 19th October
