IRISH PROVINCE NEWS

There are Irish Augustinians staffing some parishes in Chone, in Ecuador. In the USA they minister to 6,500 people who attend Mass each weekend in their parish at Buena Park, near Disneyland, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Among the men serving there is Fr Pat Crilly who spent many years in Australia. The Augustinians in Canada have one Irishman working with them. There are many of them also working closer to home in England and Scotland. In Rome they staff St Patricks, the Irish National Church which is popular with the many Irish couples who like to marry in Rome.

Old Boy Thanks Past Teacher

Fr Rod Cameron osa and Anthony Fischer-CrippsSt Augustines College, Brookvale warmly welcomed back one of its past students this month, author Anthony Fischer-Cripps (Class of 1975), who presented one of his books to his former science teacher Fr Rod Cameron OSA (Staff Member 1965-1982).

Anthony, a physicist with the CSIRO, has written a number of text books including a Physics book for senior school students which he presented to the College and Fr Cameron.

Anthony dedicated the book to his science teacher, Fr Cameron, who, as a student once asked his teacher: "Why do we study these things?"

Fr Cameron answered: "To seek the truth."

The search for truth is part of the Colleges motto Vincit Veritas (Truth Conquers) which was inspired by many expressions in St Augustines writings, notably: "Nothing conquers except truth."

Fr Cameron is also a former Chaplain to indigenous communities in Cairns, Qld and spent the afternoon talking to senior students about Aboriginal spirituality.
