AUGUSTINIAN BULLETIN BOARD - March 2004
Desire the inward healing
What did God achieve? He healed the issue of blood, he healed the leper,
he healed the paralytic (these are all diseases of the spirit), and the
lame and the blind - because everybody limps who isn't walking straight
along the road of life, and everyone is blind who doesn't believe God,
and the self-indulgent and extravagant suffer from a bloody flux, and
everyone false and fickle is marred by leprosy. And we need him to heal
us inwardly, yes him, the one who healed people outwardly precisely to
get us to desire his inward healing.
Sermon 63A, 2
Rest in Peace Bishop Noel Daly DD, former Bishop of
Sandhurst, affiliate of the Order.

On 14 January, Bishop Noel Daly died suddenly though he had not been
well. The Augustinians in Australia were saddened by this news. Not only
had he led the diocese of Sandhurst (1979-2000) in Victoria where the
Order administers the parishes of Echuca and Kyabram and previously Rochester
(until 1994) but he was also a great friend. He was a great supporter
both financially and in terms of his interest in the Augustinian mission
in Korea. In recognition of his support and friendship the Prior General
of the Augustinians affiliated Bishop Noel to the Order in 1999.
Representing the Augustinians at the funeral of Bishop Noel at Sacred
Heart Cathedral Bendigo were Fathers Anthony Banks (representing the Provincial),
David Austin, D K O'Shea and Joseph Walsh. The Provincial, Father Pat
Fahey who was attending the Assembly of the Delegation of Korea at the
time, wrote to Bishop Joseph Grech (current Bishop of Sandhurst) to offer
the condolences of the Augustinians.

- NEWS FROM HOLY SPIRIT PARISH - ST CLAIR / ERSKINE PARK
On the 14th February, the renovations of the church were completed
with the arrival of new furniture for the sanctuary. This furniture
was donated by the Maloney foundation and was designed and built by
Greg St John from Canberra.
The altar, presider's chair and lectern commemorate
in a permanent way the part the Augustinian Community played in the
life of the parish from the time of arrival in 1995. The Augustinian
crest is etched onto the glass back of the presider's chair to be
a constant reminder of the cooperation and love that has existed between
the members of the Order and the present and future members of Holy
Spirit Parish.

Read the Artist's Statement
about the new sanctuary furniture.
- NEWS FROM ST FRANCIS XAVIER PARISH - GOODNA
Transition strategies: After long and serious deliberations by the
Animators (a sub group of the Pastoral Council), one focus group for
Parishioners and two Parish Assemblies later we have in December 2003
elected a group of eight Parishioners who will form the first Pastoral
Management Team for our parish. Late last year we presented the documents
to the Archbishop for approval after they had been approved by the
parish in the second assembly.
The Pastoral Management Team began formation early in February with
a view to begin working alongside the Augustinians and hopefully the
parish priest after us. This group looks to the future when there
will be no resident priest and they will be left to run the Parish
under the direction of supervising priest.
They arose out of planning and particularly a strong desire to remain
as a community after the last resident priest departs. They wished
to be prepared for that day and ready to effectively manage the parish
under the direction of the "Supervising Priest". Please pray for them.

LECCETO COMMUNITY 2004
The Augustinians annually invite young people to come together and
form a community based around the ideals and the Rule of Life established
by St Augustine in the fourth / fifth century. These values are timeless
in their application and are good for men and women who want to come
together in mutual respect to spend time with others intent upon their
God and seeking unity of heart and mind. The community caters for
people in the workplace and for those who are taking time off from
work for fulltime studies. Using common funds and setting time aside
in busy lives for prayer, contemplation and service the community
nurtures each other and challenges each one as to their ability to
be there for others and for God. Please contact Fr Tony Banks osa
who will guide the community in 2004. You will also be supported by
the Augustinian sisters and brothers in the Brookvale area. Fr Tony

FATHER DAVID BRIMSON
A member of the "eighty-something" generation, Father David
is presently being very active in his retirement in southern Brisbane,
Queensland. He recently completed his memoirs, entitled A Brim-full of
Memories, which the Australian Augustinian Province is publishing privately.
The
autobiography of Fr. David Brimson OSA, founding rector of St. Augustine's
College, Brookvale, NSW was published in May 2003.
"Brim-Full Memories" tells the story of David Brimson's childhood in
Brisbane, his youth during the Second World War, entry and training in
the Augustinian Order and his eventful life as a priest.
Now in retirement at Nazareth House, Brisbane, David Brimson has looked
back over his long experience of ministry and given us this interesting
story in 56 pages, supported by numerous photographs.
Cost is $14 incl. postage in Australia.

AUGUSTINIAN COMMUNITY, MAREEBA
The Augustinians have a long and rich association with the Diocese of
Cairns. It began with the arrival of Fr John Hutchinson O.S.A. and his
two companions at Cooktown in 1884.
Subsequently, the Augustinian presence extended to all the existing mainland
parishes of the Diocese. Today, however, the Parishes of Mareeba and Dimbulah
are the only parishes in the Diocese, which are still served by the Augustinians.
With this background, St Thomas's Priory, Mareeba is now offering an
opportunity for single men to experience a period of simple community
life in the Augustinian tradition with time for prayer, parish work, recreation
and personal pursuits.
